I saw a Facebook status…

The other day I saw a Facebook status…

When you carry the Bible, Satan gets a headache. When you open it, he collapses. When he sees you reading it, he faints. When he sees you living it, he flees. And just when you’re about to re-post this, he’ll try to discourage you. I JUST DEFEATED HIM! Copy and re-post if you can. Any takers?

While it seems cute, and all good, it caught my attention.  This, to me, is a prime example of American Christianity.  While it is cutesy, it is NOT Biblical.  One thing American Christianity embraces is cuteness, while it ignores the Word.  We are in a war, and we need to know the truth.  The truth is, Satan uses the Bible against us, he even used it against Jesus:

Matthew 4 “5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6 and said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, He will command his angels concerning you, and On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” -ESV

This verse shows us not only can Satan use the Bible against us, but that he knows it.  When you sit there, with your Bible open and reading, most likely he is trying everything he can to ever so slighty twist the scripture into something that will benefit him.  Be AWARE! Satan is not just trying to get you to sin, or get people to do bad things, he is trying to destroy the church, without even knowing he is.

Some lines from a song that are interesting (Destroy the Runner – I, Lucifer):

…I’ll preach what I practice,
and I will practice on you…

…I speak of angels,
but host demons instead…

…I will sell them the scriptures,
and I will pocket your fame…

…I am feasting on bread and your wine.

We need to be in the Spirit always to know when something is from God or from Satan.

I encourage you not to just take the word of others on spiritual matters, but to back EVERYTHING up with scripture.  Do not be like so many who are complacent in their lives, who prefer to enjoy the “cuteness” and ignorance American Christianity.  The Word gives us the truth, and everything we post about our beliefs from Facebook statuses to blogs, should be fully founded in the Word.  The Word is not a joke, and needs to be taken very seriously!  THIS IS A WAR!

  • Thanks Xiontawa,

Its really sad to see someone post something unbiblical like the facebook status above.

The bible, in 1 Peter 5:8 does not desribe satan as a fainting, emotional mess but as a roaring lion, roving about looking to see who he can destroy.

Jesus Conquered Satan, we do not conquer Satan–even if we resist him. Our Lord already beat him via the Cross as it says in
Colossians 2:15 (New International Version, ©2010)

v15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

    • the Bible says that the devil is “like” a roaring lion, not a real one! the REAL lion is Jesus Christ coming back as the Lion of Judah! if one is saved in Christ, it is not your own power, but the authority of Christ’s holy spirit and grace in you that makes you able to defeat the devil, his minions and principalities as it is written:

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” – Ephesians 6:10-13

the battle is raging and the Bible is the source of our knowledge of our authority so yes the devil will STAY defeated when you know your authority but you must read the Bible to LEARN of it! so yes, satan is weakened and flees from those who are reading and learning their authority from the Bible. but if one does NOT use the Bible to learn of that authority, they are the ones he is looking for, they are the ones he is able to devour “like” a lion

  • It is sad how much our culture thinks it is being “godly” just because they put a dumb catch phrase on their facebook status or a bumper sticker on their car.

While our Christian brother’s and sister’s are being persecuted overseas do you really think God is impressed by our facebook statuses?

    • while i agree that being “in Christ” is more than cutesy sayings, i have to disagree with your comment. while the devil did use scripture to try to tempt Christ, he only did it AFTER Christ used it to rebuke him and EVERY TIME Christ rebuked him He did so with scripture. there IS a war going on and our armory is the living word of God! we need to KNOW the Bible so we KNOW the authority we have in Christ against the devil, and THAT’S why this is more than just a cute saying but more of a battle cry!
